The news of the purported resignation of the General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye greeted the media space some few days ago. Later, we got to know it was simply a reshuffling due to constraints from a certain law.

While we were trying to greet the news and check for substance, there was another news.

President Muhammadu Buhari through his Spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu announced the approval of a New Board for the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRN). Mr Adedotun Sulaiman, MFR and Mr. Daniel Asapokhai were appointed as the Chairnan and Executive Secretary of the Council respectively.

President Muhammadu Buhari also went ahead to direct the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment to invite the nineteen ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government and private sector organizations specified in the FRN Act to nominate members of the board of the council.

Again, not long after, the Corporate Governance Code was declared to have been suspended by the minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah.

That was how oga Jim Obazee lost his job and we started hearing stories. Obazee has a BSc in Accounting from the great University of Benin (sharp guy); MSc in Accounting from the University of Lagos, and a certification in strategic financial analysis for business evaluation from Harvard University, USA. He is a fellow of ICAN (Big man), and a member of NIM.

Jim Obazee was reportedly a former Zonal Pastor of the RCCG and they said he also got fired for insubordination and alleged infidelity. I can’t be too sure. He was also fingered to have recommended the sack of HRH Lamido Sanusi as Governor of CBN.

Some things are worrisome and others exciting to me in this fiasco, and this is the crux of my writing this. Sorry, I needed to get you informed before I start.

First is the politics of bitterness being played with such a relevant document.
The FRN goes beyond RCCG, or Pst. Adeboye or even Obazee or President Buhari. The FRN Code affects  Private sector establishments, mosques, churches and other finance-involving agencies and establishments.

Interestingly, the supervising Minister of Trade and Investment is also purportedly a RCCG Pastor. Not forgetting that the Vice President is also a RCCG Pastor. I am then forced to ask how come it took Adeboye’s relinquishment of GO of RCCG Nigeria before these interventions?

Could Obazee be acting some scripts of some powers to scuttle the Church or was he simply insisting on the right things to be done? I wish I had the answers….

The New Chairman of FRN is a Muslim, infact an Alhaji. Please don’t remind me of any islamic agenda by the time he starts his own. The Church may soon cry foul, forgetting that a Christian began it. So, please brace up. Anyway, there is a ‘Daniel‘ there as Executive Secretary.

Excitedly, I heard that the General Overseer (Worldwide) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said “Join a party and become a card-carrying member of any party. Just join any party. We shall decide issues right from the ward level. If you are not active at ward level, you’ll do what they plan and say at the top. Enrol in any party of your choice and have a card. When holding meetings at ward level to choose delegates, be there.”

I quickly jumped and shouted “Let Someone Shout Hallelujah!

The Church in Nigeria is waking from her long sleep. We keep misusing our voting strength on acclaimed Christians, while the zealous ones are told that holiness doesn’t exist in Politics.
If we fail to be part of politics, the same Agberos that have no plans for us will become elected or appointed, and decide our fate. This is the reason why we are still here today.

Bro Emmanuel, Sister Glory, Pastor Chiwendu, Deacon Sola, and Apostle Oreva, if you have the ministry gift of Administration, please go organise your ward, senatorial district and state. Let your voice be heard!

Patrick Ozaveshe JIMOH, is of Ward 001, Igarra, Akoko-Edo LGA of Edo State, Nigeria.
