INTRODUCTION: To expect is to look for with some confidence; to look forward that something is about to happen or come; to await; to anticipate; or to hope.
Expectation is the channel or means through which FAITH flows and finds expression. It creates the atmosphere for faith to work.
TEXT REVIEW: Proverbs 23:15-26
Proverbs 23:26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
From the verse 15 and 26, there was simply one matter that was emphasised, the HEART.
Until you have given your heart to God, there cannot be a glorious expectation!
The Lord God must first deal with the issue of your heart, for as a person thinks in his heart, so he is.
There is an expectation of God and our parents concerning us. Also, there are expectations we have too.
As children who believe on the promises that cannot fail, we sure must expect a fulfilment of them.
The list is not exclusive, but these shall suffice for the time.
1) Health & Soulish Prosperity – III John 1:2
God is the owner of your soul, and he expects your soul to prosper even as you are healthy.
2) Thanksgiving Always – I Thessalonians 5:18
Engage God in thanksgiving and you will evermore receive. Thank God always!
3) True Worshippers – John 4:23
Enough of the hypocritical service, God expects a true worship in spirit and truth.
4) Repentance & Salvation of All – Mathew 18:14, John 6:40, II Peter 3:9
It’s the expectation of God that everyone, irrespective of status and age, repent and be saved.
5) Sanctification and Holiness – I Thessalonians 4:3-7
God uses sanctified vessels and without holiness you cannot see God.
6) Fruitfulness – Luke 19:12-27
Your gifts and talents are not to be carried away to heaven, but to be used in the propagation of the gospel here on earth. Join the workforce!
We shall look at these five personalities and get understanding for our lives.
1) Lame man at Beautiful – Acts 3:1-11
Let not your expectation be the ephemeral that can be seen but on the imperishable, unseen and eternal things. (Check II Corinthians 4:18)
2) Captain Naaman – II Kings 5
Build your expectations in accordance to God’s Word not on your perceived ways.
3) The Four Leprous Men – II Kings 7:3-9
With God’s intervention, their expectations of death and slavery turned out to be glorious. Expect great things, God will yet again turn the tide for you.
4) Bartimaeus Timaeus – Mark 10:46-52
Many will shout you down, challenges will confront you but don’t drop your expectation.
5) Woman of Canaan – Matthew 15:22-28
Through knowledge and persistence, you can get your expectations fulfilled.
These all had their expectations centred on God, not on the men. Building your expectations on people will only result in heartache. Focus on God!
A.W. Tozer said “Faith without expectation is dead”
Our God is able to do far beyond our expectations ( Ephesians 3:20).
God is not a waster of resources, get involved in kingdom advancement.
Never again should you come to God’s presence without expectations.
Oh Lord, I give you my heart reserving nothing.
Tell God, what are your expectations?
